Hey I saw an ask and I need some help. I (we?) have some sort of personality disorder. I'm an alter and learning about this stuff I sort of disappeared for 4 years. I was almost conscious but never fronted during this time. I come back and we've been safe for 2 years? It freaked me out and I need some advice. I used to be around all the time and the system host (Ro) I sort of new of when things where bad. But I never knew of anyone else. This is getting long I'm going to do multiple asks (1/?)

(2) Ok so Ro had almost no clue what happened. Which wouldn’t make sense if I was the only one besides him. Since things wouldn’t just suddenly be fine if we weren’t fine yet. I have gaps that Ro also has too. This made me suspicious so I started going through all the stuff Ro had in those years I was gone. I found some really disturbing writing’s that Ro most certainly didn’t write. I got into contact with Ro completely on accident. He doesn’t know what’s been going on at all. (3) How should I reach out? I’m really concerned about their mental health too. So far all I know about them is that they’ve got silvery blue eyes. That along with some really graphic writings and they’re younger than me. -end”

It’s very common for people with DID/OSDD to have more alters than they’re first aware of, so there’s nothing to be afraid of with that. It’s a super common experience that many systems have. Your best way to form inner system communication is with the help of a properly trained therapist, but my own advice would be to simply open the door. Just invite them to introduce themselves to you and sort of mentally “think” this to “yourself.”

Most importantly, don’t try to solve or fix them or their struggles right off the bat. It’s like building a relationship with a physical person–you need to get to know them and build a connection first. Then, you may be able to guide them towards healing!

A lot of learning to create good illustrations fast is having the pressure of working under a deadline. In college, I often had to complete 5 full paintings a week, on top of schoolwork and a 20-hour a week job.

You start to realize what to keep and leave out, like are somewhat forced to let go of perfectionism and just power through. But, here are some tips too! Some are style-specific, but they’ll at least give you a few ideas to pick and choose from!

Working with minimal layers (traditional or digital), this allows you to focus on doing 1-3 really good paintings that come together to create your piece, instead of thinking of, say, 20. This is style-specific, but if it helps my watercolor work is always a max of three layers!
Use a timer system (I like the tomato timer method)
Set specific work hours (I only give myself four hours a day, so it’s taught me to be really focused on efficient)
Create thumbnails first (if you’re making a colored piece, make them colored!) These are a lot quicker to complete and they work as a guide, so you can power through your final painting. They also help your illustrations look better composition-wise!
Use larger brushes (this is really helpful with watercolor). You can get super detailed even with a large brush, as long as it has a good point.
Keep practicing basics too! (I sometimes slack of this, but I did it a lot in college). The sharper your skills, the higher chance your first or second sketch will look how you want it to.

Thumbnail examples btw! First image is a thumbnail, second is the finished painting, third is the finished tarot card (some small digital edits made too). This and the timer method are the most important for helping me work quickly.

Self sabotaging is something most of us survivors of abuse have done at some point in our healing journeys. Like when we finally get close to someone, then push them away even though it’s a good relationship. Or we miss therapy appointments, even though we know they’ll help us.

All human beings have a tendency to do this, so self sabotaging is nothing to be ashamed of. It’s in our nature…but, of course, it also limits the joy we can have in life. That’s why it’s worth breaking the cycle.

It takes work to overcome self sabotaging cycles, but it’s completely doable. You just need to understand how to notice them, discover the hidden motivation behind them, and get clear on the single most important step you need to take to break it.

How to Identify Self Sabotage

Ever do something and later you ask yourself “Why did I do that?” (Or “Why didn’t I do that thing I should have?”)

Almost every regret is tied to self sabotage, at least when it involves decisions we make. (The regrets that aren’t connected are things that happen out of our control…like feeling regret about not having a good childhood when we were abused in our younger years. That’s not related to self sabotage.)

The first key to solving self sabotage is fully understanding why you go against what’s best for you. There’s a series of questions that will help you identify this. Answer these and you’ll understand your cycle!
